Merkel in support of WHO, calls for global cooperation



Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel, who came in support of the World Health Organization (WHO), called for more global cooperation to combat the coronavirus epidemic.  News agency Xinhua was quoted as saying by a statement issued by the German Federal Government, "In a video conference during the discussions with the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7), Merkel said that the crisis was dealt with only through a strong and coordinated international response.  can go."

The statement further said, "The Chancellor of Germany on Thursday expressed his full support for several other allies including the WHO."

Merkel also welcomed the initiative of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to host a virtual donor conference on the prevention of Covid-19 infection.


Chancellor Merkel spoke of the global responsibility on the state of the epidemic in Africa as well as the need for rapid support.

Germany's Foreign Minister Heiko Maas also said that 'WHO is the backbone of international epidemic control'.
