At a time when more than half of the world is under lockdown due to Corona virus, cases of violence against women are coming out from all over the world. In Pakistan, in view of the increase in such cases, the Ministry of Human Rights has started a helpline. On this, 34 complaints have been filed on the first day.
Jill Huma, a spokeswoman for the ministry, told 'Urdu News' that 'there was a helpline already on their side, but a new helpline has been started in view of increasing domestic violence cases due to the lockdown'. She further informed that 'So far, 34 phone calls have been received on this help line.
In 90 percent of these calls, people asked for information about hospitals. They said that in case of domestic violence complaint, the victim will be told how to file her complaint. If his complaint is not lodged at the police station, the institute will immediately ask the SSP to lodge a complaint.
SSP will have to give reason if no complaint is filed:-
She further said that if SSPs do not lodge a complaint, they will have to give a reason for this in writing. On normal days, the helpline worked for 16 hours a day. However, in the current situation it is working from 10 am to 10 pm. At the same time, advocate Fatima Butt, who works against domestic violence, says that such helplines already exist, but it will prove to be a time when the government will make sure that the problems of the people will be solved. 'There is no use for such a helpline'
She says that 'such a helpline is not beneficial because the Ministry instead of solving any complaint itself, asks the affected person to contact the agencies concerned themselves'. She said that domestic violence has increased by 60 percent due to the lockdown. In such a situation, women themselves should take stature and go to the police station and lodge a complaint. On the other hand, human rights activist in Pakistan, Mahin Ghani, has also said on her Twitter account that incidents of violence with children and women have increased in Pakistan during this difficult time.
