Clash with Chinese army in Ladakh, one Indian Army officer and two soldiers martyred

There was a clash between the two armies on the Ladakh Border between India and China (India-China Faceoff) late Monday, in which an Indian Army officer and two soldiers were killed.  An official statement issued by the army said, 'During the de-escalation process in the Galwan Valley, both the armies were confronted last night, in which our soldiers were martyred.  These include one Indian Army officer and two soldiers.  Senior military officials of both sides are meeting to reduce the current tension.

After the deadlock began early last month, the Indian military leadership had decided that Indian troops would take a tough stance to deal with the aggressive style of Chinese troops in all the disputed areas of Pangong So, Galwan Valley, Demchok and Daulat Beg Oldie.

China's Foreign Ministry has said, "It is up to India to resolve the matter with cooperation or take unilateral action."

After the deadlock began early last month, the Indian military leadership had decided that Indian troops would take a tough stance to deal with the aggressive style of Chinese troops in all the disputed areas of Pangong So, Galwan Valley, Demchok and Daulat Beg Oldie.

The Chinese Army has been gradually increasing its strategic reserves with the LAC and has brought cannons and other heavy military equipment there.  The reason for the start of the current deadlock is the sharp opposition by China to the construction of an important road in the Finger area around Pangong Soo Lake.  Apart from this, China is also opposing the construction of another road connecting Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie in Galwan Valley. This road is important for patrolling Indian soldiers.

In Pangong So, the road in the Finger area is considered important for patrolling by Indian soldiers.  India has already decided that it will not stop any of its border infrastructure projects in eastern Ladakh due to Chinese opposition.  The soldiers of the two countries clashed in Pangong So area of eastern Ladakh on May 5 and 6.  Soldiers of both sides were injured in this incident.  About 250 soldiers from India and China were involved in this clash.

In another similar incident, on May 9, near the Naku La Pass in the North Sikkim sector, about 150 Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed.
