PM Modi: Time to strengthen poor, labourers and farmers
The second tranche of stimulus for the country's economy unveiled by the government on Thursday has a series of progressive measures and it will help the migrant workers and farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday announced a Rs 3.16 lakh crore package of free foodgrains for migrant workers, concessional credit to farmers and working capital loan for street vendors as part of the second tranche of fiscal stimulus to heal an economy hit hard by the coronavirus-forced lockdown.
"Today's announcements by FM Nirmala Sitharaman will especially benefit our farmers and migrant workers," the prime minister tweeted.
The announcements, Modi pointed out, include a series of "progressive measures and will boost food security, credit to farmers as well as street vendors".
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday evening said the coronavirus lockdown in the state will continue till May 31, though his government will lift the curfew restrictions.

8 migrant labourers died and over 54 suffered injuries after the truck they were travelling in was hit by a speeding bus in Madhya Pradesh's Guna early this morning. The incident took place hours after a group of migrants were run over by a speeding bus in Uttar Pradesh. Whereas a roadways bus in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh crushed the workers on foot. Six workers were killed and four were seriously injured in the accident. Apart from this, two laborers were killed and 12 injured in a bus and truck collision in Samastipur in Bihar.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday evening said the coronavirus lockdown in the state will continue till May 31, though his government will lift the curfew restrictions.
"From May 18, there will be no curfew in the state. But the lockdown will be there till May 31," said the Chief Minister.
The date sheet for CBSE class 10 and 12 examinations will be released on May 18, HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced in his tweet on Saturday.

"Liquidity relief of Rs 2,500 crore to 72.22 lakh employees by extending EPF contribution for next 3 months". We extend government's support for another 3 months till August 2020. "Government will provide Rs 20,000 crore liquidity. For this scheme, NPAs or stressed MSMEs, all will be eligible". Said by Finance Minister. The special economic package will have an emphasis on land, labour, liquidity and laws, and will be for "our labourers, farmers, honest taxpayers, MSMEs and cottage industry", PM Modi said.
Lockdown is also falling on government employees. Recently the central government had stopped the increase in inflation allowance. Now another bad news is coming. About 16 lakh government employees may decrease up to Rs 5000. The Uttar Pradesh government has banned immediate effect on 6 perks to get their employees.
